First spider

I have wanted a ball python for a long time and today i got my first one. I got a spider morph from my local herp shop. He is about 2 months old and has great color compared to other spiders i have seen (half way white). I was wondering, what could i do with him as far as breeding? and is there anywhere online where i could read about the genes of ball pythons? It seems really complicated. I need some help.

Also he seems really nervous in his new cage even though its almost the same one at the store. I will try to feed him a mouse tomorrow, should it be alive or dead?

Have you done any research before you got your BP? I mean I understand about not knowing full genetics with your spider and other morphs, but why would you ask if the mouse should be alive or dead? It's your personal preference....

I think you should let your BP be for at least a week b/c you just got him and he's stressed.... I wouldn't attempt to feed him if I were you and just let him relax... and I hope you end up doing some more research on your snake.

I'm partial to bumblebees myself (pastel spider).

As for feeding live or frozen/thawed - you will probably have the most success feeding the same way your snake was already being fed, but once you get him stable you can do which ever you prefer.

So many cool morphs you can make down the road and looking at the NERD link provided will be really helpful for you!!
As for feeding, lots of people with new snakes let them settle into their new environment for a week or two before attempting to feed them. This allows the snake time to get adjusted to all of the new things in his new home without adding the stress of eating and digesting :)
If you can describe the set-up you have, we might be able to give kudos and maybe suggestions to better it! Do you have a thermostat to control the heat source? Do you have two hides? Do you have the sides and back covered with dark paper (assuming it's a tank)? Do you have a small water dish? What substrate are you using? How are you measuring the temps and humidity inside the tank? So many little variables need to be taken care of for the snake to feel secure and become a good eater and, eventually, a good breeder!!
