Does anyone have a rack for use with rats and mice
I breed both rats and mice, a lot of the racks I have been looking at are just for one or the other, is there anyone out there that has a rack with both rats and mice? if so may I see, I want to build my own rack, rite now I have a huge bird cage with female rats 2-10gal and one 20gal of male rats and 2 mouse tubs (i have 2-10gal for breeding, and 2 smaller bird cages)
I want to try and make a rack that firs in a space 4ft wide, and as deep as 2ft (or less)
    Does anyone have any ideas?

The shelf i have is just under that size, but the big female cage, and the breeding cages overflow onto the floor.

    Thanks for any help

If you build it yourself, you can make anything you want. :D

I don't see why a rack couldn't hold larger tubs for rats on the bottom and smaller ones up top for mice. I myself have a 'different' rodent rack since I don't believe in putting rodents in those low, small tubs.
And now, my 'racks' are being rearranged to accommodate 3 wire cages for a 1.2 breeding trio of rats once I can get them. :)

The only limitations are those of your imagination...and budget, space, etc...

I was thinking of trying to build one maby like....

    shelf
    ----------------
    [mouse] [mouse] <---large litter pans
    [mouse] [mouse]
[-rat--] [-rat--] <---18gal, or 60qt totes
    [-rat--] [-rat--]

or with the shorter underbed storage

    shelf
    --------------
    [---mouse---] <---34-40qt underbed tote
    [---mouse---]
    [---mouse---]
[-rat-] [-rat-] <---18gal, or 60qt totes
    [-rat-] [-rat-]

of couse the rat ones would be taller than the mouse ones
No plans yet, it will be a couple months before I build, just looking fo ideas

I think your biggest problem is going to be finding the right size hardware cloth to use. I am not sure if 1/3" is too big for mice or too small for rats, but it falls in between the standard 1/4" for mice/ASF's and 1/2" for rats.

I have almost a whole roll of the 1/2" . I would just have to check the ranch suply stores for the 1/4".
3 ranch stores and no pet shop..go figure
