Has anyone tried this for a DIY incubator?
Hubby was at a local restaurant supply company a couple weeks ago for something else, and remembered to ask them about a cooler for me to turn into an incubator. He described what we wanted, and they didn't have that but they did have an old catering hotbox they were willing to give us for free since they didn't have the cord to power it.
It looks like this:

But mine has a glass door instead of the solid metal one.
It's been kept very clean but has no shelves otherwise is the perfect project.
Has anyone used one of these before? How'd it go, and were the temps easy to keep stable? How much flexwatt do you think would be a good amount to start with and then tinker down from there? It's about 6 feet tall, 3 feet deep, and 2 feet wide.

If it's free...GO FOR IT!!
For the shelves, you can go to Home Depot and look in the section where they sell light fixtures and look for the square grate:

you can cut it to size and it will work fine for eggs...altho i know it works fine for small things, it may be too flimsy for an entire shelf full of heavy eggs

Ahh, great idea! I could probably strengthen it up with a couple thin steel bars welded in under each shelf to give the grate some support and it'd be perfect. Thank you!

you could just use the wire shelving
those make great meat smokers

That looks great for a DIY. It's just too bad that it's vertical space.
You will need a fan or 2.
The glass door is a plus.
