Baby BP Weights

I picked up two BP's at the White Plains show on Thanksgiving weekend. I have had them two weeks and one ate twice and the other ate once.

Weighed them today and they are 79g and 84g. Is this normal weight?

They eat again tomorrow (hopefully).

do you know how old they are?

My '08 female was hatched around august-september, and was 273 grams last weigh-in, might be up to 300 or more grams by now. Just a point of reference for you.

Lots of variables there......those sound like decent weights if they are not from early in the year.....

It is hard to tell it depends on various factors, hatch date, weight out of the egg how soon they started to eat…etc

I have babies that were that weight and over out of the egg and I have 2 that were barely 30 grams out of the egg, they also never ate on their on and are being assisted right now which means that compare there is a huge difference between them and their siblings who eat on their own and were an average weight when hatched.

The most important is that your BP looks healthy, eats with consistency and is gaining weight.

I was told they were about 8 weeks when I bought them which would make them about 10 weeks now. They're both normal males.

-Grins.- That sounds "about right." I just picked up a 10/08 female who's running around 95grams. Of course, that'll change tomorrow after feeding. ^_^

I wouldn't worry too much as long as you're feeding regularly.

I am offering food (hoppers / rat pinkies) every 7 days. When the one refused to eat I left him alone for a week and tried again. He ate then.

My niece has one from the same breeder that we purchased at the same time. He refused to eat twice so I took the F/T hopper and just slipped it gently under his lip and it somehow caught on to a tooth. When I put him down he wrapped around the mouse and ate it. That one is around the same size as mine.

I'm guessing the young ones will become better eaters as they age.

They ate and they ate well.

On reading that newborns are feeding on hoppers, I decided to go larger to a small mouse. I also turned up the heat lamp and left the box with the mice on top of the tank screen for 30 minutes to try and get them worked up.

It worked amazingly well. Each snake nailed the mouse just as I was putting it in the tub. Both snakes pulled the mouse out of my hand. :banana:

The past two times I fed them they were very apprehensive and kept backing away from the mice. Not this time.

It was a stress free feeding tonight and I thank everyone for their advice. :bow:

Glad that feeding went well! I couldn't tell from your post, but I would use tongs or hemostats when feeding. Helps reduce the risk of a bite!
