Getting a Male up to Breeding size
I see that alot of people get there snakes weight up really fast. I am picking up a Bumble Bee from a friend of mine this April when they hatch. I was wondering if I would be able to get him up so breeding size by breeding season? I plan to pair him up with atleast 4 Normal Females if he is up to weight. I tried to get one this year but he only had a female when I contacted him. I should have taken it cause it was only $800 and very beautiful. Every year around this time they knock $200 of the price of there Morphs then take another 20% off of them to get them out to make room for the new babies since they produce more then 400 babies a year.
I know alot of people power feed but how much do you feed them at each feeding and how many and what size of mice/rats?

No problem getting a male to breeding size feeding him an appropriately sized rat every 5 days. Don't power feed, no good for him. PM me the info on this breeder, I would like to see what they have left.

Well you need to get the male to around 800 grams, dont power feed him its not healthy for the snake. I feed my males 1 regular mouse a week till they hit about 300 grams then offer him 2 a week if he wants the other mouse. takes about a year, and your still not gaurenteed the male will breed yet. Some males breed at younger ages but thats not the norm. So all in all i breed mine at about a year to year and a half and if they are in good health. Good luck hope that helps.:rolleye2:

Getting them to size is easy,getting them to go is the hard part thats the proplem im having.

same here one of my pastels is about 450grams and producing sperm plugs but shows no interest at all right now, oh well theres always next season. And Im not to worried about it because my other male pastel is 1500grams and is a stud:gj: I would just ry feeding him every 5 days, offer him seconds and if he wants it he will take it. Goodluck

When you offer 2 a week do you feed them both at a time or a couple days apart? Also are you feeding them every 5 days when you feed 2?

Typically my experience has been that my best breeders are males or females I've had in my possession for atleast a year. Maybe it has something to do with getting "use" to the seasons in my area?
Regardless this year is my first attempt at breeding a young male and it isn't going successfully :) He's got the size but doesn't appear interested.
In doing my research beforehand alot of breeders recommended waiting until they hit atleast 500g before rotating him with girls and only with a couple females to not overstress the male.
I'm sure there are cases of other approaches working but this seemed safe and reasonable for me :)

If you offer an appropriate sized meal there is no need for seconds. Seconds lead to a fat, unhealthy, lazy breeder.
