new BP please help

i got a new albino today...hes about 16 inches long and i have him in a 40 gal breeder tank ... hes very active, moving all over the tank. Is this normal activity for a new snake? could he be stressed out? i was thinking he may be hungry and i tried to feed but he wont eat? should i wait on feeding him or should i try a few hours later?

any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Probally very stressed. That is a huge tank for a baby. Always allow any snake a week to settle down before feeding. I would invest in a 10 gallon tank for it or really clutter up the 40. You can do this as simple as lots of crumpled up newspaper.

He's just checking out his surroundings. He'll calm down eventually. Wait a week or two before trying to feed him.

Also, it's sounds like he's a hatchling, so a 40 gallon breeder is too large for him. You might want to try to find something a little smaller.

He is probably really active right now because he is stressed out and in a new environment. I would suggest getting a smaller tank like a 10 or 20 gal. A 40 is wayyyy too big for a baby ball. Also, once you have your tank set up give him a week to get use to it without human contact. I know it may be hard to not hold him right away but its for the betterment of the snake. Once youve waited a full 7 days then try feeding him.

i dont wanna know who told you to buy a 40 gallon breeder but it will be a long time before hes big enough for that try a 10gallon with a thermostat and a uth heater depending on room temp and youll have to cover alot of the top of the tank

Ditto. BP's are pretty much always active right after they're put into a new environment, to check things out and explore. He's acclimating to the differences :P But, I still agree with everyone else about the tank being too big. I'd go with a 10-20 gallon tank.

I think he gets the 10 gallon tank thing guys.. :]

Let him settle, check the rest of your husbandry with our caresheet, and make sure he has a couple really nice snug hides. :D

I have my 16 inch ball in a 20 gallon. Also, make sure your temp and humidity is correct because I've read in a few different places that snakes sometimes move around to try and escape too-hot temperatures.

But, I don't think that's the case here. Just like everyone else said, I think he's just acclimating. Definitely don't feed him yet. He needs to get comfortable with his new habitat. Also, when you do feed him (if you decide to feed him outside of his regular enclosure) make sure to wait 30-40 minutes before placing him back into his normal habitat. This allows for him to digest a little so he won't regurgitate when you handle him. Make sure to place him back in his cage very lightly so you don't upset his stomach and try not to hold him where the mouse is sitting inside of him.
