    Woot Woot! Turtle Time!
    Alright, so I've been banging down doors for almost a year now trying to get funding to radio tag a population of western pond turtles (Emys_marmorata) that live on my research site and as of today, we found a donor to kick down 4 tags to us. WOOT WOOT! Now we can figure out

    - Where they are nesting
    - Where they go when the reservoir dries up
    - How large of a range an individual can cover (varies by sex).

    SOOOO EXCITED.:banana::banana::banana:

    Watch your back, Turts.

    Long bout a hundred years or so ago, I found a big ol male in a flume/irrigation ditch. It was summer time and he had wandered out of his lake, about 50 yards from where I found him, and fallen 3 feet into a dry concrete channel.

    He was a ferocious eater.

    That place is all over grown with cattails and cottonwoods. They've totally choked the lake out of existence. There are also some serious berry brambles there now and the obligatory leavings of that most wasteful of creatures, man himself.

    No more turtles or catfish or carp or waterbirds. Not many lizards and no snakes.

    He was a hell of a turtle though.
