New pinstripe female, and morph question
So I picked up my pinstripe female on Friday! She was a mid-07 baby produced by Ben Siegel, and has been owned by a breeder in WI since then. She's about 1100 grams (haven't weighed her myself), and absolutely gorgeous! She's my first ball python, and I'm already smitten. The breeder said she locked with his pewter male four times three weeks ago, but I doubt anything will come of it. Personally I think she's much too small to breed, so as cool as it would be to have eggs, I almost hope she didn't take. As an added question: what on earth would a pewter x pinstripe make? I tried looking it up on google and didn't have much luck.

He said she eats every three days but I am going to back her off to once a week, because a fat snake is not a healthy snake!

Anywho, now for photos! Meet Penelope! The first two photos are from the person I bought her from, one of them shows her with the pewter male.

And this is one a friend took of her yesterday, doing what ball pythons do best!

I'm already planning on getting her a SMOKING YELLOW pastel boyfriend, once I find a stunning one that I can afford. I'd like to breed them next November or December if she's big enough, but it's not crucial. I just love these gorgeous guys!

Wow, that's really cool that your first ball python is a pinstripe! Congrats and good luck with her!

If you breed a Pin to a Pewter you could get:
    Normals
    Pewters
    Cinnamons
    Pastels
    Pinstripes
    PewterPins (which I don't think I've ever seen a pic of )
    Pinstripe Pastels (aka Lemon Blast)
    Pinstripe Cinnamons

I like to use this site when I have genetic questions, http://www.supersnakes.com/
And I like to use this site when I want to look up different morphs

Oh wow, that's quite an array of morphs possible in one clutch! Amazing! No wonder he was trying to breed them!!! I like pairings where there are a lot of possibilities, it makes things more exciting.

I'm hoping to make lemonblasts, and then breed a mojave or pastave to one of the lemonblasts. How cool would that be?

Thanks for the Supersnakes link, I'll check that out. I've spent a lot of time on the NERD site, they do have some awesome animals.

And yes, I agree that it's cool to have a pinstripe for my first BP. This guy was offering such a deal though, I just couldn't pass it up!

    Beautiful pinstripe!!!
As for the breeding.... Once is all it takes :O
You might want to research setting up an incubator (coolers are great) if you see any signs of her being gravid; better to be prepared than not :)

Re: New pinstripe female, and morph question
Luckily I'm no n00b to the herp world, so I do have an excellent Hovabator (I guess some weirdos actually use them for hatching birds, hmm? hehe). I am going to make sure it's ship-shape and ready to go...just in case! I'm going to work on making a nest box for her too, since the nest boxes for my leos are just too small :)

If she does take, do you think it's going to be bad for her health? I still feel like she's too small to be a mamma, and I know that being bred too young can have negative health implications for life for many animals. How soon should I be able to start feeling the follicles/eggs? Should I offer her food more often for as long as she'll take it, in case she is gravid? I was planning on feeding her tonight and then keeping her on a once-a-week schedule.

Hmm, I hadn't planned on having to deal with a gravid girl so soon, I guess I need to go read up on my BP breeding then so I can be ready just in case! Thanks!
