    Weaning ASF's
When do you guys wean your ASF's from reading the care sheet (yes i read the sticky's)

My new litter was 21 days last Thursday, and I was going to wean them out to their respected cages this wed or Thur.

I just had another litter drop today, so I wanted to also make sure that the older babies will not effect the new babies.

One more question. I wanted to make one more trio, will taking two females from this litter and in 4 weeks a male from that litter be o.k.? Since the females would have not had any mature contact with a male would it be ok to introduce then or would I be better to just pull 3 and make a trio now?

    Thanks
    Rich

I wean mine as soon as their eyes are open and have never had a problem. Most people say that having different aged babies will not be a problem. However, one time I had "ready to be weaned" babies with "just born babies" and a few of the just born babies were suffocated. It could have been an isolated incident and I've only had it happen once since usually all of my girls give birth close to the same time.

I think you will be ok adding the male in a few weeks, but I've never done that so maybe someone else will chime in...:)

weaned mine yesterday , Mommy is about to pop any day now. The ones I weaned yesterday have had their eyes open for 5 days and were observed eating and drinking on their own....

Well from reading i'm going to wean them out today and see what happens. Im still stuck as to what to do to create the second trio. Keep two females and add the male from the other mother to lessen the imbreeding or just take 1.2 from the 9 now??

:-) i got that part. Im more concerned regarding adding the male a month after the two females get seperated. Will they accept him or kill him?

I have successfully weaned and separated males and females right at 21 days, let them grow up in their same sex tubs for a month, then introduced a male to them just fine. They still wont breed right away, but they are all pretty grown up. (although I have read in a journal that ASF's can go into eustrus as early as 54 days).
