    Snake laying on HIS side?
Alright guys, as some of you may know, I am breeding my hypo and het hypo for the first time. Two days ago, while separated to allow time to digest his food, I found the male coiled, and laying his lower half on its side. Now, the next day he was put back with the female and they locked for the entire day (!!). Today, I come to check on them, and he's laying partially on his side, again. What gives? Isn't that what the female is supposed to start doing???

So that's what that is? I've never seen any of my snakes do that!

    Hi,

Well it's one of the possibilities. :)

When you got a lock did you happen to notice who's tail was on the bottom?

Lying on the side isn't too unusual - Some of mine do it quite a lot.

I think the female in the latter stages can lie with her back end completely upside down though - I'm sure I've seen pictures of that in books when discussing breeding.

I snapped a shot the other day and posted it. Click here for that thread.

I got them both from the same guy, who owns a very reputable and very well kept shop around here. He was in Reptiles magazine at one point. Great guy. The female was part of his personal collection. It came into the equation when negotiating the purchase of the hypo. I highly doubt he could be wrong on both of them. The het is the one who I can feel developing.

I guess I should mention if I nudge him when hes like that he rolls back down. He seems fine, his demeanor has not changed any.
