When you live with MacGyver and- or Gina Gershon...
We just moved recently, and no longer have a landlord a buzzer away.

Last night I left my keys at work... figured no biggie, I will just kill time till Jer gets home.

I get home and he is locked outside with the broom in hand. He had stepped out to sweep the stairwell and locked himself out.

So we exhaust our options to get in (after about 2.5 hours), and then MacGyver tells me he has a plan. I should know better. We go up the back stairs and he picks apart a few clothespins and starts jamming them in the lock.

"Excuse me, do you know how to pick a lock?"

    "Yes."

    "And you learned this where?"

    "The other night on TV."

We had just watched Bound, where Gina Gershon is an ex-con, and she picks a lock... apparenly Jerome's hero ability is the belief that he can learn anything by seeing it on TV.

So another 2.5 hours later and we get in the house. The lock WAS picked eventually, by a locksmith, so we are still out 150.00 and now our back door is locked permanently and has 3 wires rammed in the mechanism that are now permanent fixtures.

But, god bless him for trying... :8:

I just really hope I do not ever need a surgery that he has seen on TV.

    LOVE IT!

A few months ago, I was out at a gated storage facility with a friend of mine in her truck. She locked the keys in her truck and we ended up having to call a lock-smith out. Cost her $40 to have him pull some sort of universal key out of his pocket and jiggle it in her door.

So...as we're leaving, the lock-smith is ahead of us and reaches the security gate....where you have to put in a code to open, even from the inside. (We opened it earlier as he came in) He sits there for a minute, looking puzzled, while Sheri and I are behind him laughing.

She gets out of the truck and saunters up to his window and says, "I can put the code in for you....for $40." :D

BTW...I'm with Robin...that avatar is precious!

This may sound really really stupid...
But why didn't you just drive to your work and get your keys??

I moved out into the country in a small town and not once, not twice but at least 4 times, probably more locked myself out of my house. The way its set up The front door to a enclosed porch, is locked with a dead bolt. But it has screens. SO I had to use various things to climb up to the screen and push it in.
I now have a spare key hidden for the front door.. And have had to use it once already.
    Sigh....
    I feel your pain.
I am too cheap to call the locksmith...

That sounds familiar. My son Nick was trying to show his brother how to pick a lock on one of our cars, he knew how to do it because he saw it on TV. suffice it to say that we no longer can unlock the passenger side door on our Saturn from the outside. Of course he was 11 years old at the time so he can be excused somewhat. The upside to this is that now that he's 15, we get the disgusted eye roll and loud defensive retort every time we bring it up, so at least it has ongoing entertainment value. :D
