I use both. I use a digital thermometer/hygrometer to spot check what is going on when I walk by. I use my temp gun to accurately measure temps in the tubs and cages.

I have a digi at each end of the cage to let me see the ambient temps at a glance. Use a temp gun to check floor and hide temps.

Using both is the best choice. A non-contact infrared thermometer is great for surface temps, but you can't measure ambient temps with it.

I use both but prefer my accurite. i sometimes get different readings with my temp gun, maybe I do it wrong? LMAO

I use both. I find that an acurite isn't as accurate as a temp gun when it comes to temperature but I use them to get a general idea of the humidity.
