    Quick Question on Humidity and Shedding
    Okay, here it is;

    What is the disadvantage to having humidity high when a ball python is in shed? When I say "high" I'm talking between running it at between 70 to 100 percent.

    None....humidity should generally be between 80 and 90 during shed ...then bump it back down following the shed.

    80-90 might be a little excessive, but as long as it isn't for a long period of time then you should be fine.

    Hmmm.... I keep my humidity between 50-60% at all times and all my snakes shed perfectly.

    Disadvantage to super high humidity? If kept there during the entire week and a half to two week shed process, I would be worried that it was too much for them. It really doesn't ever need to be in the 80-100% range... :)

    isn't high humidity a main cause of RI? I know you need to raise it for shed but too high and you are risking an RI. High humidity is just a breeding ground for bacteria, so while raising your humidity your need to be careful because the entire habitat becomes more vulnerable. To me it seems like you would want to keep your humidity as low as possible, while still providing enough to keep the snake hydrated.

    From doing a lot of reading, a general consensus has showed that most people are between 50 and 60 normally and 55-70 for sheds. I'm still pretty new to this whole thing so can't speak a whole lot from experience, but I have done A LOT of reading on these forums. If I'm wrong please correct me...

    I used to raise my humidity to 70% during a shed but then I noticed that I would miss the blue stage on some of my snakes and they still shed fine with the humidity being a constant 50-60%. Needless to say, though I'll say it anyway, I don't bump my humidity anymore :)
