What's the best hygrometer?
Hi! What's the best thing out there to measure humidity inside the enclosure? I'd like a brand name recommendation, if possible. I'm not concerned with cost.
Also, I bought an IR temp gun, but as long as I'm asking, what is the best thing to use to measure temp? Do those plasticy things that stick to the inside wall work?
Re: What's the best hygrometer?
Acurite digital thermometers run ~13$ at walmart (I got mine off amazon for like 15$) and they give you an "outdoor" temp which is measured by a probe, an "indoor" temp which is measured by the actual unit, and a humidity reading. Tons of people use it with great success and for 3 in 1 you can't go wrong.
Also, having a probe is nice as you can stick it under the hides to see what the temps are in there.
Re: What's the best hygrometer?
Most of us use an Acurite Thermometer/Hygrometer combo. It's digital, and it also reads a daily average high and an average low. It's a nice little combo. You should be able to pick them up at Wal-Mart still.

And I forgot to mention that all the temperature/humidity reading devices you can buy at your local pet store are trash (including the stick on ones). Just take a look at all of them on the shelf and you'll notice that they all give different readings.
Re: What's the best hygrometer?
Accu-rite and equivalent brands generally have a tolerance of +/- 5% for measuring relative humidity. That seems to be accurate enough for most BP husbandry purposes. I shoot for 60% and then expect it to be in the range of 55%-65%.

+1 on the acurite... I use em in both my tank and my tub
