    Feeding Frequency Question - JCP
We have an almost 5' Jungle Carpet Python - yes, he's grown! I give him a medium rat every two weeks. Is that too often? My intent is not to power feed him. It is such a big meal; I know he takes longer to digest it than the small rats he was just changed over from a month ago or so.

Should I feed every two weeks, three weeks, four weeks, monthly?

    Thanks for your input, y'all!

I have a female JCP thats nearly 6ft and i feed her a medium rat every other weekend and she does just fine. she usually spends a few days in her hides then gets really active a few days before her next feed.

    Melissa,

Your feeding schedule sounds fine to me. Power feeding would be doing it every week!
You are doing great with him. Post up some pics girl!

When I think of "power feeding", I think of young animals being fed every day or every other day, to get to breeding size rapidly. Once a week wouldn't be power feeding. When I kept Jungles they were fed once a week. I feed most of my chondros once a week and they are much less active than any carpet. Though I will say some of my males are only fed every couple of months. As long as she's holding weight, every other week is fine.

i have a few carpet pythons and although none of them are jcp the feeding process would be the same i would think. now as for me i have a 4½ to 5 ft carpet and she eats a medium rat every 7 days and shes not obeese nor under weight. she is slender and muscular. i feed my hatchlings and 1 yearling every 5 days and my older ones every 7. this girl is a little over 2 years of age, well wheni got her he said she was an 06 baby

My JCP is still just a baby (an '08), maybe 30" or so, and she is ALWAYS hungry. I think she's being fed a rat pup every 6 days right now.

I always planned on her eating every 7-10 days once she hits a year and a half or so. You are certainly not overfeeding!

I have a 4 month male that I feed every 5 days. At 6 months I will feed him once a week. At one year I feed most snakes every 7-10 days....around 2 years I go to every 10-14 days for the rest of their life.

Looks like a lot of varied answers. No one here is the authority on carpet pythons so do what you like I guess. Ha! I fed my adults a small rat every 7 days and babies ate every 5 days.

Thank you all for your responses!

I'll try to post an updated picture in the near future. He's doing great. I can't believe how much he's grown since we got him - just under a year ago.
