BP dermal issue

MY BP has small brownish spots on her skin...they appeared after her last shed and i am concerned this could be the onset of scale rot ... they are located entirely on her backside and head and can mostly only really be seen on her green markings, the belly looks completly normal. it almost looks like she is dirty... and i switched from coconut fiber to paper towel a coupla weeks before she shed. ill try to get some pics posted if they turn out... if anyone knows what this could be any info would be a great help ... thanks!!


P.S... temp= 82ish- hotside 74ish-coolside, humidity=70-75% and shes eating well ... always has lol and shes only about 24inches

Natural discoloration maybe? Doesn't scale rot normally show up on the belly?

Your humidity is pretty high, and your temps are about 9 degrees too cool on both sides.

Your temps on the hotside are what the cool side/ambient temp should be and the hotside should be around 92*F. Humidity is too high as well, should be around 60-65%.

Are the scales coming off like when you're holding her? If so, this happened to me as well, after she shed once it was almost gone and after the second shed it was like it didn't happen.

ya i know my temps are off but ive been forced to keep he at my parents place for a few weeks, and they have a small cottage style cabin rite now which is wood heated so they dont keep it very warm or at a consitant temp (ive been jobhunting n tryin to find a place that will let me keep a BP)... what the ideal humidty ?? the lady at the herpstore told me 75-80% cuz BP are a tropical snake... the funny thing is even with the low temps and high humidty she spends most of her time in her in her mosit hide on the cool side

oh and this may sound kinda dumb but i cant seem to find the icon that would allow me to attach a pic ... any thots ?

i havent noticed any scales comin off yet but i havent had to time to handel her much... but i did remove the pexiglass peice i was using to hold in the humidty, and she seems more active but the hum dropped to like 20% and she seemed a lil "rough" this morning

BP's are not a tropical snake. They are native to West African grasslands and forest...not rain forest. They will do fine with a humidity of 50%-55% until they go into shed, then you can make the shed easier by bumping it up to 60%.

If she just had a good shed, you might want to concentrate your efforts on getting the temps in the right (or at least better) range. I know you said the ambient temps outside the cage are low right now, but there are several things you can do to help with the cage temps. Cover three sides with foam core, cover 3/4 of the top if you have a screen enclosure, and even move the tank closer to an incandecent light souce if you have to.

ya im moving into a new place this weekend so the temps will no longer be an issue... but im more concerned with the brown spots... also ive noticed that she has a patch a bout 1/4 by almost 1/2 long on her neck area that is also brownish rite in the middle of a long green markin
