    lab blocks..?
question for those that buy large bags of rat food.

I usually buy small prepackaged or by the lb lab blocks and store them in the freezer to kill/prevent any potential moth problems as I've had them come home with me in the food b4 and they are such a pain to eradicate not to mention repulsive.

How do you all keep your large bags free of those pesky moths? It's not like I can fit a 25 or 50 lb bag in my freezer lol

is it safe to use those moth strip things near the bag of food? or should I just keep buying it the way I am.

I usually buy three fifty pound bags of lab block at a time. I have never had any issues with moth. I keep them in my garage in a big Rubbermaid chest.

I imagine that you are paying a pretty substantial amount for rat food at the pet store. My fifty pound bags cost $26 each.

I've never had them in lab block either and I get 50lbs at a time. What brand is it? Sounds like maybe when they dump it to sell in bulk or re-bad it's getting exposed to them? Maybe see if you can bag straight out of an fresh bag?

We buy 50# bags too, and no moths. I did have problems when I had bulk sunflower seeds and Becky's mix when it wasnt in an airtight container.

I get the 50# bags also and I've never seen moths in there. I keep the blocks in an airtight container though so I guess they could be in there but I doubt it.

thats strange that i've gotten them if no one else has lol Ive even seen the webbing stuff in their corn/seed mix rat food.

maybe they do get in there when being packaged up in the store then? both of my lil mom n pop stores (one of which is a big feed store) that i go to sell it prebagged by them, one of which has them in a bin.

i know that when I do shop for pet foods I often see the moths fluttering around at times. even by the dog foods.

the stuff i buy by the lb is 95 cents. it's the only store ive found so far that ive found that is willing to buy me a large bag, I was told he can get a 20 or 25 lb bag (forget which) for 25 dollars. if thats the price, Im better off buying it at 90 cents a lb.

I'll have to call my local tractor supply and see what they can order.

wow @ 50lbs for 26 bucks.. wish I could find that here!
