Zoo Med Therm UTH placement????
Hello all,
I am fairly new to the python world but i have been doing ridiculous amounts of research and now have a very nice setup and a beautiful young lady named Stella... i have had her for two weeks and she has eaten and shed already and today i went and bought the Zoo Med UTH, now here is where my question comes in.... I have Astro turf as my bedding and i was trying to figure out if i should still bottom mount the UTH or side mount it because Stella's urine does seep through the turf and they say liquid can cause stress cracks..
thanks for the help!

Re: Zoo Med Therm UTH placement????
Check out this thread It has some good ideas on how to place a UTH. I wouldn't worry so much about the urine on hot glass cracking it I've never heard of that happening. It should definitely be mounted on the bottom of the tank. Do you have a thermostat or a rheostat to control the temperature of the UTH? They can get extremely hot if they are not controlled.
Re: Zoo Med Therm UTH placement????
I currently have a thermostat and humidity gauge in the tank but i have yet to purchase a rheostat.. i was thinking about turning it on only at night while my blue night lamp was on, it keeps the temp at about 85 but i figured it would help with it on, after looking at that forum tho.. i dont think i should be putting 115degrees right into astro turf then my snake.. i think i will just hold off with putting it on until i pick up a rheostat... thanks again

Do you have a thermostat or a thermometer? A thermostat actually controls the heating device being used while a thermometer only measures the temperature. Here's a link to some good thermostats Thermostats Link. It is an investment but for the health and safety of your snake it's a necessary one. Rheostats are all right if the temperature in the room is entirely constant or as a short term solution occasionally.
Oh btw :welcome: to bp.net! You'll be sure to get some great advice here from smarter and more experienced ppl than myself lol.

My apologies, it is just a thermometer... thank you very much for the link... i will have to get a thermostat before i hook up that heating pad, no big deal. thanks again!
