    seasonal off feed
just a quick question about snakes that stop eating this time of the year. other than the obvious, are there other ways to tell whether a snake is going off feed for the season? i only ask because Lennie has refused live prey five weeks in a row now, but always shows some level of interest for the rat sent in the air. if this were a seasonal issue, would he still come out of his hide to investigate, or is it more likely that he would pay zero interest? To the best of my knowledge husbandry is correct, and he has eaten under the current temp and humidity levels. in case anyone wants to know, warm side is about 90 (i'm working on bumping that up another 2 degrees), cool side is 82-84, humidity is about 50%.

Yes, normally they still act interested in the prey. If he's breeding size, and your husbandry is correct, I'd say it is most likely just a seasonal thing. Just keep offering prey every week, like usual.

this time last year my adult male stopped eating rats

when I eventually offered a mouse he snapped it right up....

you might try offering a mouse just to make sure he isn't just reverting to being a mouser like mine did :)

    good luck

When my boy went off feed for the first time, I decided to offer a mouse. Kept that mouse for a couple months after he refused it over and over again. Then I decided to try a rat again and he took it. So if you do decide to try a different prey item, keep offering what they're used to also.
