DIY Inexpensive caves/hides
Like most I am sure you have purchased hides and cave$$$ that your herp outgrows. I found this page and have made several of these with no issues and they look/work great. They always look different so no duplicates in diff cages. People have voiced concerns about fumes but as long as you stick to hot glue guns, water based paints/sealers and sanded water based grouts you will have no "fumes" or chemicals issues. In fact many wild life places like zoos and the like build habitats or have them built with similar materials. I will post a pic or two of my best thus far is you all are interested.

Re: DIY Inexpensive caves/hides
I'd be interested in seeing more pics of these and hearing some other peoples' input. I'm a brand new snake owner (about a week or 2 now) and just hate the look of the hollowed out sawed in half log that the previous owner used for a hide... I'll get some pics n stuff up this weekend just really busy with school right now...
Thanks!

Things like this are neat if you have time..but for those of us with LOTS of snakes...I don't mind dropping $7 on a hide.
Re: DIY Inexpensive caves/hides
Can this work for water dishes as well?
Re: DIY Inexpensive caves/hides
My wife has a daycare. So I take all of her old baby wipe containers. I clean them very well and leave them out in the sun for a few days. I wash them again. Then I cut a little hole in the front. Free of charge and the good for the enviornment.
Re: DIY Inexpensive caves/hides
This link is not my personal project so I need to make sure and thank/give credit to the creator of that article. I would not use is for water simply because I am not sure how long the sealers can stand up to continuous submersion. I will post my latest creation as soon as I can get the cam charger. I have four RBI cages and plan to make a cave/hide for all of them. 30 snake cages may be a bit much but 1-3, maybe 5 nice setups for display is really all I had in mind here. The great thing is the materials needed for on can easily do five or six. Might as well use the materials if I bought them.
