    Substrate...Cheap paper sources?
Does anyone else use paper (news paper or blank newspaper print)? I found that Wally World sells a nice drop paper (very thick and absorbent) for painting. For RBI cages you can just cut it to width (assuming you have the smaller cage) and it comes in rolls of about 500'. That lasts a while and looks nice (medium to med dark brown) for only $7.99 a roll. Any other cheap sources of paper ideas other than ugly local news paper with election news all over it?

We move a lot and the military pays for professional packing.....so....when they wrap all our stuff, they use newsprint paper. As I unpack, I flatten and fold it and save it. I've got TONS of the stuff. Sad thing is, I only have two itty bitty snakes to use it for and they're currently on aspen.

I dont use newsprint, but when I was considering switching to it, I contacted a couple local newspapers, and they referred me to their wholesaler. It was way better priced than retail, but you had to buy in semi-bulk. The lowest quantity required that I found near me was 4 rolls. If i remember correctly, I was really surprised at how short of rolls they had available, and the type of rolls didnt matter. I think that they had some as low as 250ft.

Thanks for the ideas for other sources in the event Wally world quits selling it or goes out of buisness. :gj:

Try your local newspaper - here in this area I go to the local newspaper and you can get the "cast offs" - the rolls of newspaper (unprinted) on a 4 foot roll that has a lot of paper on it still for free. I just asked them for scrap for my snakes and they give me a roll
4' long appx and its like 12" diameter

I am ALL about Scott Shop Cloths (the blue stuff) I usually buy it in 6 packs and put about 10 sheets in my 40 gallon. 6 pack lasts about 6 months. $10.
