Ever wondered what 40 snakes pooping all at once smells like?

Neither had I.

But after moving all the snakes over to the new house and getting them all set up. I walked into the snake room the next morning and just about threw up!

EVERY SINGLE SNAKE MADE A CACA!!!

BUT the best part... my WC female Katherine had her first BM. She has been on feed for about 3 months, and finally blessed me with a turd. Attagirl Katherine. I think the majority of the stench was hers actually. And to be honest, I have seen big snake poop, but she put even my biggest boys to shame!

I guess the excitement of the move just managed to facillitate the moving of wee snake bowels. I had used the cases they came over in as the bedding. I wanted to set them up and was so tired after a week of moving and 7 days of sleeping 3 hours a night and working 10-14 hours a day that I did not have the strength to start looking for supplies and setting them up proper.

Maybe it was the smooth cottony feel of all those pillowcases... who knows?

But yeah. NASTY!

Yes I do know the feeling. However, I also know that if it really smells THAT bad there may be something wrong (parasites, bacteria, etc...). You might want to get a fecal test done on your WC girl.

She has been treated when she arrived from Africa... I just assumed the stink was from her not having defecated in a long time. She took a long time to go on feed, so by the time she started to eat she retained as much as possible for as long as possible.

And it really just smelt like a lot of feces... but never hurts to get a second fecal done. I have a few going in for tests in the next while. I will hang onto her next turd (cause I am a romantic) and take it in.

I'd say it would be more likely that you walked in on fresh poop/pee over parasites. I find that while there is little to no smell to poop after a few hours (like when it happens when I'm out of the house), but it smells horrid when it is fresh (when I'm in the room and they poop or pee). So you probably walked in at just the wrong time.

Personally, I vote for it being those nice, soft, cotton bags. The last three times I have put a snake in a bag to take it somewhere it has either relieved itself on the way there, or after we got there.
And yes, you are right, it smells oh so lovely!!
After this happening for the third time in a row, I have made a vow to take an extra snake bag with me from now on.

that always happens to me right after cleaning day. I have 20 hatchlings that hold it in until the tub is spotless then the next day i check on them and its a disaster. i wonder if it has to do with being handled lol..

Yeah, I think they really like those bags! Fortunately have not had one poop when being transported... I think I would just have to find someone that really likes snakes and hand it over. :)

But apparently I missed the memo that noted that "after we all poop, we wait a day and then we all pee." I swear they have synchronized their watches...
