Question about transporting a bp
I'm going away for 4 weeks and need to take my bp with me. It's about a 5 hour drive. He will be just over 3 months old when I would be transporting him (I don't know if this has any relevance).
So basically, I'm wondering will it be OK to transport him and how should I do it (i.e. any suggestions about making the ride more comfy for him)?
Thanks!
Jax
Re: Question about transporting a bp
I would get a box and crumple up a bunch of newspaper to cushion him, then put him in a snake bag (or pillow case with lower thread count) and set him in there for the trip. Make sure you have the car very warm also. 5 hours isn't that long relatively speaking. Just make sure he stays warm and you should be ok. I would also follow the protocol for acclimation once you reach your destination- i.e. no handling and wait a week before offering food. Depending on your feeding schedule, make sure he has an empty stomach before you make the trip, that will reduce the chance of regurg.
Re: Question about transporting a bp
If it will be chill in the car, you can use a cooler instead of a box(still with newspaper cushioning) and you can also use a hot water bottle(put in the cooler, but not on the snake), and refill the hot water when you stop somewhere if necessary.
5 hours is a short trip compared to shipping him, so he shoudl be fine. Just like the above post, leave him in his new dogs for a week, no handling to relax.
