Some much for liking small places..

I have two hidey houses in my tank and she never goes in them..
Everyone says you should have a hidy house in your cage one on the cool side and one on the warmer side. But she never goes in them! She prefers to curl up in a ball against the side of the tank :weirdface is it just her preference? that she doesnt like hidy houses? like some do and some dont?

She may not like the particular hides you have for her. Could be too big, too small, too whatever....

Or it could be the temps. What are your temps on each side? And what heat source do you use?

Sounds like the hides are too large. They seem to prefer small tight places where there in as much contact with their bodies as possible.

Two examples of hide size being an issue:

Three weeks ago I adopted a new ball python from someone in town who was moving and couldn't take him. The setup was a 20 g tank (deep), a light on top, a branch and a pretty good size homemade hide from a cardboard box. The snake, whose name is Charger, was curled up in a corner between the box and the glass. He was ICE COLD! She told me he loved his branch and would climb it all the time and rarely went into the box. Ummm...he was trying to get warm :rolleyes:

I brought him home WITHOUT the setup she had. He has a 20L now, LOTS of trees, UTH for heat, and the same type of rock hide that I use for Alice. He explored a little bit, but then went straight into the hide and curled up! Let's just say that now he acts more like a happy ball python. When I pick him up he feels all toasty warm. He has eaten good for me and has had a perfect shed since he got here. Amazing what a little proper husbandry do!

Also, when Alice outgrew his baby hides and I switched to the next size up, I made him some temporarily. They didn't touch him all over...he hated them and never went in them. When the pet store finally got in the ones I wanted, he went straight in!

Just my experience, but I do agree with previous posts to check your hide size.

in the second pic the hides look alot smaller than they really are

Try a bit larger size and also get two that are the same I have noticed that my snakes are wary of different hides. Don't know why

I have a female and she in a tub in a rack and I've tried three hides and she always pushes them to the front and turns her water bowl over.
