Adobe Photoshop

Do you use it? What for? How often? What version do you have?!

I have CS4 (hubbahubbahubba) and mostly do 'custom graphics' for my silly horse site. I've been wanting to get into other things though.

I don't use tutorials as much as I should, to be honest, I've only really used...three in the three odd years I've been using the program. One was a tutorial on how to draw horse manes and tails. The second was how to do rain. And the third was how to do glow text.

Otherwise I'm basically self taught.
The first picture I ever did was of a Friesian, standing in a field of flowers.
I turned it black and white, added purple text, and figured out how to make it into a jpeg.
The sad part is I could probably track down the very picture I used.

I used to use it a lot, but now I only use it for color corrections or level adjustments with photos. Most of the creative stuff I now use Illustrator for.

I dont have either one, but which is better photoshop or illustrator?

It depends what you are looking to do. Probably photoshop for most people. The newer versions allow for vector layers, so you can do a lot of things that you can in Illustrator, plus you have all the photo and raster manipulation and adjusting available. Illustrator is pretty much strictly for creating vector layouts. I do a lot of technical illustrating and digital drawings/illustrations/logo design type stuff, so I use Illustrator a lot more than Photoshop. I even do my background removal on photos in Illustrator. Illustrator's pen tool is unmatched.

lol thats easy, photoshop is ftw and i dont know of any photo editors that are better.

as for me i got cs4 used to use it about 2-3 hours a day but i havent for a while. my question for everyone is who really bought there photoshop edition?

I use Photoshop of loads of stuff from Logos to banners to simple pics that I later change. I love the "smart objects" feature on it and the perspective plane tool is fun.

I also really bought mine. Not sure there's any other way to do it.

I use CS3 for photo manips and graphics. My little sig pic was done by me a couple years ago for the 9-11 anniversary.

I'm a graphic design student so I use both pretty extensively. I've only got CS3 though.

Photoshop is more useful to most people. It's great for manipulating photos. Changing color, merging two diff pics, adding simple text, ect.

Illustrator on the other hand i use for mainly creative stuff. Drawing from scratch, making my own display types, Cartoony type stuff, ect.

In the end it's what works for you and how much time you're willing to spend learning the program. If all you do is play with the hue of a pic and add some glowy text you can probably do that in paint. But photoshop has lots of hidden gems as far as features if you really take the time to play with it.
