Sad...
In late August, my 66% possible het VPI line hypo female laid two eggs. She was bred to my yellow hypo male. Both eggs made it to term, I cut them on day 68(I incubate at a lower temp, 87-88 normally) and both snakes(a gorgeous Hypo and a 100% het) were fully formed and alive. I checked on them daily and everything was fine for a few days. Two days ago, I checked on them again and while the 100% het moved, the Hypo didn't..
So, I set to cutting the egg open a bit more, poking said snake with my fingers. No movement.. I then opened up the sac the snake was in and proceeded to pull the hypo out. The damn umbilicus was wrapped around the abdomen and blood supply was cut off. I figure as the snake was absorbing the yolk and getting fatter, the blood supply to the umbilicus was slowly cut off.
It sucks that it was a gorgeous blushed out, very high flames coming from the belly, nice head pattern/neck pattern, and IT WAS A FREAKIN' GIRL.
At least the 100% het is fine and should be coming out soon. Has a neat, busy pattern like its mum and dad.

Oh man that sucks!
Good luck with the het. I'm sure next year your breeders will do better than two eggs! :gj:

Re: Sad...
Too bad, that is a downer for sure.... part of the law of nature I guess, not all are meant to make it. Sorry to hear about that. It's one of the reasons I don't mind cutting after I see the first pip. To check on them and make sure they are okay.... not fool proof, but sometimes it helps catch a problem early. Of course, sometimes, there is just nothing you can do. I hope all goes well for you with the breeding this season.
