Indian Star Tortoise or....
Hello. I am thinking of getting a tortise. I have experience with beardies, geckos, and snakes, and did help to care for a desert tortise at a wildlife rescue, but other than that, I don't know that much about them.
I LOVE star tortoises, but a few articles say they aren't the best for beginners. I would love some suggestions, and any feedback on care, other tortoises that stay small, etc.
I have done research, but much of what I reads is contradicting.
Thanks,
Draba
Re: Indian Star Tortoise or....
Interesting choice. No, Stars are not considered "starter" torts. Mainly because of what they need to eat. most of the stuff you would have to find out how to grow during the summer and winter because you can not find it in grocery stores. The food part to me is the most difficult part. They are also very shy, so if your looking for a more active tortoise id look into finding one with a little more personality. Really all they do is eat and sleep with the rare walk about:P though all of them are different so it really depends on the tort. If you can handle feeding it what it needs and housing it then go for it!

I like star's too but I hear they dont do well with other species and I already have leopard and a russian(rescue) tortoises. Leopards are great, I would highly reccomend them.
