hungry snake

    hungry snake
    so i feed my be last night (she is about 7 months and about 2 feet give or take). i feed her a small adult mouse and right after she continued to crawl around for a little bit and she is back out crawling around to night. like she is hungry. i need to up her food size, but should i feed her another small adult mouse tonight?

    I would say yah, give her another mouse. Get a scale from wal-mart if you dont have one perhaps, it will help you get a better feeling of how much to feed your snake by comparing weight of prey to the weight of the snake. You can definitely up her to small rats or rat pups at this point. Meals should be approx the same size of the thickest part of the snake and about 10-15% of the body weight.

    You can give another mouse without worries, but remember as well that BP's are binge feeders. It's their instinct to eat as much as possible when available...like college kids around free beer. It won't hurt, but may not be necessary (I guess that's where the college kid analogy ends!).

    Something as thick as the snake is at its widest point, once per week, is a good rule of thumb.

    For the weight percentages per week, I have heard as low as 10% and as high as 25% and everything in between! :)
