RIP Cheerio :(
I'm so upset right now. Last night I had all the girls out again running around on my bed just like in this thread here we had a great time. Everyone went back to their cages, no problems...... Then this morning I woke up and Cheerio was dead :tears:. I literally almost cried. She was my absolute favorite rat, just the sweetest thing ever. She was a great breeder too! Her last litter she had 14 perfect babies and took great care of them too.
I just don't understand why she died, they had plenty of food, their cage is always clean, plenty of water.... It just doesnt make sense. I looked her over and she hadn't been in a fight that I could tell, there were no sores or open cuts, no bloating or lumps anywhere..... It just sucks. Sorry for talking so long but she was awesome even if she was "just a rat" This is my first pet I've lost in a long time and it really does hurt. The worst part is I didn't even see it coming.

I'm sorry Adam for your loss. I have had a rat pass in the same manner, and it's a terrible way to lose an animal.
She was an adorable rat.

Thanks she was a beauty, I'm mad I never kept any of her babies lol. She had some beautiful little blues and a couple of nice agoutis. Actually I think I may have one of her babies still but he's growing out and I don't need any more males right now :(

Sorry to hear about Cheerio. Take solace in knowing you gave her a much better life than most rats get.

Sounds like she lived in paradise while she was with you. Can't ask for much more than that. I'm very sorry for your loss...I know how easy it is to get attached to these little cuties.

TY everybody. I'm like a freakin wreck today. I haven't even told my girl yet. She was her favorite and the only one she got to name :tears: She's gonna be a mess when I tell her tonight. Well I'm taking off work early to go field herping lol. Maybe that will take my mind off things. Wish me luck finding some nice milks or an eastern hognose or maybe even a timber rattler nest (we've got a couple marked out already, there's a $500 reward for information!)

Sorry to hear this. Was she a young girl?
Sometimes they just pass for no good reason, nothing that could have been prevented. I am dearly attached to all of my animals and I'm lucky to have only had to deal with their deaths a few times. I know they are getting up there in age for breeders and I will have to start dealing with the passing of many of my oldest and most valued females and males since we did get most of them all at the same time.
 I hope you find a new rattie that loves you, and you can love them just as much if not more than this last girl.

She wasn't very old at all. I got her back in April when she was about 6 weeks old with my other 2 guys and 2 other girls. Thanks for the kind words. I'm probably going to go this weekend and see if I can't find a rattie to replace her. I know NERD had some really cute dumbos the other day maybe I'll see if I can get a nice hooded or self.
