Possible reasons for not breeding?

I have had a trio of 1.2 mice for almost a month now. They are in a rubbermaid with 2 hides, food bowl, water and a paper towel roll. There cage is normally in the dark b/c it is in a shelving unit/ Is it normal for them to not have bread yet? If not, any ideas from experienced breeds.

Sometimes you'll get a sterile male. Age is also a factor--are they sexually mature, or were they still hoppers when you got them?

It's normal. Most of the time, mice take about 2 months to get started.

Also, as stated, if you didn't get young mice you could have sterile issues. When starting ANY rodent breeding group, always get them young and raise them up to breeding age. That way, you have them for their whole breeding life, and you know they're healthy. :)

Tim, this is only my personal chioce and should only be viewed as such. I prefer NOT to breed rats and mice, especially if you only have a few ball pythons. My reasoning behind this preference is that by the time you add up the cost of food, and bedding, and add in the time you spend cleaning, it's cheaper to buy the frozen rats and mice in bulk. I did breed them in the past, but once my collection grew to a certain size, it was more cost efficient for me to NOT breed them...and less smellier too! Now, for large BP breeders who have the facilities to house thousands of rats, that's a whole different story ;)
