Questions on the Super Stripe
I know that the super stripe is composed of a whirlwind X YB. But what I dont know is, is it considered a Combo or a Co Dominant?
Re: Questions on the Super Stripe
I have been thinking about the Super Stripe lately too. I am more interested in the details of the whirlwind. What is it's defining characteristics? Who has them? Is it all YB or just a specific line that they are compatible with?

Mhm, I know what ya mean. Right now, there isnt much knowledge on it, but this season should produce some answers.
In other species, two different mutations have been known to produced unusual results as well, for instance, the calico golden child. One would think that is would have some white on it but that combo actually created a pure black snake. So, with that being said, its all just a mystery for now.
Re: Questions on the Super Stripe
I think it's going to be another multiple mutant allele complex like the lesser\butter\mojave\Vin Russo\phantom\special\hidden complex. Two different mutations of the same gene (a different gene than the het blue eyed complex with many more distinct mutations but like them in that yellow belly and specter-whirlwind seem to be different mutations of a common gene). I believe there have been a very few super stripe X normal breedings reported without any normals or super stripes so far to disprove the theory that yellow bell and specter-whirlwind could be different mutations of the same gene.
Re: Questions on the Super Stripe
i hope you mean Spectors, and not Whirlwinds. read this post especially what Albey had to say about 1/4 the way down the page. http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showthread.php?t=75140

yes. but out of respect for the original breeder who named them, i think no one should try to rename them.
Re: Questions on the Super Stripe
I can never remember if it's spelled "specter" or "spector" and usually spend a lot of time trying to find somewhere to look it up but got lazy.
It's possible that spector and whirlwind might not be exactly the same. I think the main point of contention between the two founders (in addition to the name) was how to identify them and I've read recent comments that maybe the two lines look a little different. Sure they both make super stripe with yellow belly but it's hard to say they couldn't have a subtle but consistent difference. Maybe their homozygous versions will look different? Sort of like the lesser vs. butter debate, are they two different lines of the same mutation or just similar but distinctly different mutations of the same gene?
Also, there may well be a third (or fourth if spector and whirlwind aren't the same) different mutation of the yellow belly complex gene. There was a guy on kingsnake posting some different looking ivorys that come from an odd looking founder and seem to produce at a 50/50 rate in breedings that might indicate a new allele similar but slightly different from yellow belly in his project. I think he calls them orange belly.
There also appears to be a black eyed leucistic complex with a line that unlike fire doesn’t seem to produce the yellow blotches (I don’t know too much about this line and if for sure it’s been crossed to prove compatibility with fire) and other lines of black eyed leucistic producers with different looks.

They're two different lines from two different breeders working independently. To me, Specter/whirlwind is no different than Yellowbelly/Goblin or Lesser/Butter or any of the half dozen lines of pastels or ghosts out there.
Re: Questions on the Super Stripe
that's interesting. i always thought the whirlwind/spector looked similar. about the fires, there was some one (forgot the name) at the daytona show selling something similar to the het russo but it produced black eyed lucies and had the similar yellow blotches.
