Having trouble keeping heat in? *An Insulating Tip*

I had mentioned a few days ago here that I was having a few issues keeping heat in my tanks. I was going to opt for a higher wattage heat source (CHE) but while I was at work the other day (Home Depot), I strolled past a display that a co-worker was setting up. It was for foil insulation designed to keep hot water pipes and tanks from losing heat. I must admit I was overly excited to execute the plan in my head.

I spoke to a co-worker in the plumbing department about how much heat the insulation can save. He was incredibly helpful so for $20 a roll, I'm psyched to wrap my tanks up in this stuff and post the results.

Anyway, I couldn't keep this little plan to myself so I thought I would share.

I use that stuff for my baby racks that have back heat. It works great 98% of all the heat is directed toward the tubs. Great tip!

Haha, I fogot I posted this. Yes, it did work. I spent $14 on a roll that covered 4 sides (left right top bottom) of a 42 gallon and a 20 gallon.

i bought a car windshield blocker for $3 to wrap my tank in. haven't installed it yet though.

Sounds like a good idea, im going to try something like this...I used some foam board i got at walmart in the art supplies and im going to see how that works

I use bubble wrap stuck to formcore boards

thats a pretty well know tip. i had to use it on 3 sides of my N.S. incubator last year the old house had some issues.

I'm a carpenter and occasionally have to install that foil insulation and it actually works very well despite being less than a 1/4" thick.I believe it has an R value of 11 or possibly 19:cool: Its good stuff and I would recommend it to anyone with heating issues.
