My UTH just failed. What should I use to replace it?
I was checking temps and the warm side had dropped to 70F. Looks like the UTH failed after a year.

What should I replace it with. Here's my simple setup:

I've been hearing about the heat tapes..but how would that work? Do I just tape the "heat tape" at the bottom of the tub?

Buy a piece of flex watt and tape it to the shelf. Buy some stick-on risers and raise the tub about 1/4 or 3/8".

And get some bungees or something to strap that lid on! I don't know how big your BP is, but mine can just about pop the top on one of those tubs (just about is too close).

Can I get the flexwatt from any hardware store? or do I have to order online?

I would replace it with flexwatt. You can order it online, I never heard of a hardware store carrying it.

How do you determine how much flexwatt to lay down?
