Re: Adopting - Skipping QT?
You MUST QT your snake if you don't you are putting the one you already have at risk and this is not worth it.
QT mean among other thing, different enclosures, different room, not sharing the supply, working with your established snake first, etc
Trust me QT is VERY important.
Re: Adopting - Skipping QT?
A vet could test for parasites. As far as I know, I don't think there's testing for most of the things like RI in early stages.
Best to QT.
Re: Adopting - Skipping QT?
QT is pretty important. Maybe you could keep the snake at your sisters until QT is done?
Re: Adopting - Skipping QT?
I had been wondering about QT procedures. How does off-site QT work? If he was to "quarantine" the snake at his sisters place, is that basically saying "quarantine begins now" and waiting 30 days to make sure the snake has no signs of being sick, before picking up the snake?
Re: Adopting - Skipping QT?
Yeah, it'd basically be giving my sister (more than likely my dad) a crash course in care, asking him to check up on the snake and make sure all the temps/humidity are correct. I'd still be going there once or twice a week to look at her myself, but it would basically be me having a snake at my parents' place for a few months.
Alright, thanks guys. I was just assuming that since it's an established snake, if the girl seemed like she had a good idea for husbandry and snake care (the snake in question is a fairly large female, apparently she's had her a few years) that I could just assume it was healthy after a quick vet visit. Oh well, I can probably talk my parents into letting me QT it there for awhile, my mom came around as soon as she saw Ruth and my father has always wanted a snake.
Re: Adopting - Skipping QT?
QT is a must no matter what.

Just keep in mind you may not be getting it when the QT is over...:D
Re: Adopting - Skipping QT?
There's no way my mom will let him keep it longer than a month or two. :P

My GF is going to get back from a multi-week white water rafting trip down the green river to find out that I got a ball python.. lol.. (but she at least likes snakes, just not the "big ones")
