Temp Help!!

Hi all. I am BRAND new to this- actually rescued a couple snakes from my friends sister who just abandoned them in a garage and left- I have one Ball Python and one Red Tailed Boa- I have so many questions, but of my main concern now is the TEMP! I have screen tops, but even with blankets and under-tank heating pads, I cannot keep temps up and my BP feels cold when hes out :( I bought a nocturnal-infrared heat lamp, but am uncomfortable leaving it on when Im gone, and he HATES it- he stares at it and even snapped at it once- and it is bright red, which doesn't seem very nice for a nocturnal animal...I would love some heating suggestions and anyting else- like I said, I am NEW and just want to do right by these guys!!! thanks!

Can you insulate the tanks with foam board or cork or reflectix (sp?) or anything like that and cover over the top as well?

What temps are you manageing to get it up to already? Oh and what are you using to measure them (digital or analogue) and where about in the tank - this should give us an ide aof how much of a difference you have to make up.

Have you thought of plastic tubs as housing?

What size are both snakes and both tanks?

Can you tell us the aminient temps in the room?

if its striking at the light try feeding it sounds like its starved i use infrareds and never had em strike at em, he might be picken em up in his heat sensors and hopeing its food and strikeing at em

definantly follow dr del's advice. the only other thing i would add is after you get the temps closer to being worked out, take a look at humidity. maybe try picking up an acurite temp/ humidity gauge, or something similar if you haven't already. two birds with one stone.
