    Urate and poop smell
No matter how hard I clean the tub it still reeks of urates. I changed the newspaper, cleaned the two half log hides(which don't smell) and the only other thing left in it are the water bowl, a decorative heavy rock and thats it.

After cleaning there is no smell, but in just one day it's back. Why?

P.S. The snake doesn't smell at all.

Clean EVERYTHING and ditch the half logs.

The urates dont really smell...it is all the piss in the area of the urate...have you used bleach? Make a 10% mix spray everything, wipe it down, and take a normal wet cloth with water and wipe down to make sure all bleach residue is gone. Should take care of the smell.

Cholohexadrine is great for removing smell as well as Pro green 3. If you are using a tank it maybe getting under silicone that seals the joints. I clean tubs for 50+ snakes and never have a smell after cleaning.

I bought a bottle of the Chorohexadine solutions but the bottle wasn't very informative as to how to use it. I dulted some in a bucket of hot water and then washed out my viv. How are you supposed to use it??

Is it ok to ditch the half logs? He's in a 23 x 16 x 6 tub. He himself is about 3 feet long. The logs have become quite small for him, but he loves em and always curls under them(the log literally sits on top of him haha)

Also, how would I go about making the 10% bleach mix?

Any porous material like the logs will be a breeding ground for bacteria. Use some sort of plastic hide.

As for the 10% bleach mix...you use 10% bleach, 90% water. Just dilute bleach dude.

use the 1 to 9 ratio.. 1 part bleach 9 parts water. you choose the measurement for the size tank you are cleaning
Eample say you have a 20 gal tank you may usea total of 2 cups of liquid which means

1/4 cup bleach and 1 3/4 cups water=2 cups of cleaning solutiion...

    Get it?

I usually put it in a spray bottle for later use and cleanings.. hope this helps.

1ounce of Cholrhexidine to 1 gallon of water is what it says on the jug. I mix it a little stronger sometimes for some extra zing!

Smell your snake. Maybe its the cause of the smell. If it craps in its cage, then gets some on itself. Maybe the snake is where the smell is coming from. Maybe it needs a bath.
