What to do during a power outage
So last night I lost electricity for the second time this month. The first time was Labor day which was OK because it was warm outside so my ambient room temps were in the mid to upper 80s. Last night it was in the upper 40s outside and my room dipped to low to mid 70s :(. To keep my snakes warm I placed a bottle of hot water in the back each of their tubs. I figured that the bottle would act similar to a weak hot rock.
With the recent huricanes I am sure that somebody has developed some effective and inexpensive ways to keep their snakes warm when the power goes out. Please share your tips! Winter is right around the corner up here in MI.
Re: What to do during a power outage
You can get a big package of 7 hour heat packs pretty cheap at D ick's sporting goods that are made to keep your hands or feet warm. I have some of those just in case. You can buy 40 hour heat packs online from reptile supply businesses. Nothing beats having a generator for a power outage but that isn't feasible for everyone.
edit: I can't believe that the store name was censored but it is the nickname for Richard.
Re: What to do during a power outage
sounds like a plan. I'll check that out this weekend.
But I want to see some more ideas! I know I am not the only person who has experienced a power outage.
Re: What to do during a power outage
may sound wrong buy my plan in a pinch with no power is to turn on the oven, it heats the house of fast and the temps the kitchen/dining room/living room area gets with the windows closed is very close to where they need to be. not the best method but we do anything for our legless friends right
Re: What to do during a power outage
We have power outages alot where I live, our power lines run above ground so anytime there is alot of wind the power goes out.
We used to use heat packs but I finally had to throw down the money and get a generator. Works out better this way since I can run the refrigerator and some stuff for my kids plus the snakes
Re: What to do during a power outage
I hook up the generator......It won't run my AC, but will run everything else in my house, in moderation (meaning dont' turn on ALL the lights while blow drying your hair and cooking diner!)
Let me rephrase that, won't run the main AC, but we have a portable one that we can move room to room if necessary.
