Question About Calcium Needs
We feed our BD a combination of Phoenix worms, Wax worms, crickets, and veggies everyday (maybe not Wax worms everyday but at least a few every other day) The Phoenix worms make up the majority of his diet because we hate dealing with crickets, and he seems to prefer them. So our question is, since the calcium content is about 24 times higher in Phoenix worms than it is in crickets, is there still a need to dust the crickets in calcium?
Thanks.
Re: Question About Calcium Needs
I've used Phoenix worms when I had beardies. I think the calcium content would be sufficient. If anyone has heard different , please correct me. Be sure you have a good UVB lamp. They tend to get weaker after about 6 months or so.
Re: Question About Calcium Needs
It is said the calcium in the phoenix worms is enough. so no additional is required. I personally didnt have a great experince with phoenix worms so I didnt use them long
Re: Question About Calcium Needs
To be safe, I'd add a half dosage of calcium dust if I were you.
Re: Question About Calcium Needs
Things to consider, too much calcium not good. Not enough not good. Answers alot right
Serious though, I have not used phoenix worms at all, and you probably don't want to use wax worms much at all really they are crazy high in fat.
If your not going to dust with a calcium powder keep a close eye on the dragon, once major sign of not enough calcium will be twitches. More noticeable in the rear legs. I will show up almost like you look when you get out of the pool on a cold day and have the occasional shivers.
Also if not using calcium powder still dust with a multivitamin.
You might also want to look into roaches for them. I too didn't like using crickets and since I switched I've not looked back.
