    bug eye lucys
Hi I just got a lucy rat on saturday and shes a doll. I was wondering because when I told a friend what I got he asked if it was bug eyed, at the time I wondered why he asked and replied "no its pretty normal looking to me". Afterward I noticed a few rats at some of the tables did have these bulging bug eyes I also noticed that all the ones with this trait were lucys so is this a defect with lucys or something or am I crazy and imagining things?

Probably an inbred snake. ;) jk. Neonate Rat's have pretty bug like eyes, so do most Colubrids when young.

nevermind I found a post on another site and it is due to inbreeding. Its quite ugly IMO.

the bug eyes in texas lucy's arent from inbreeding, the original wild male lucy had bug eyes, so that trait was inherited just as the skin mutation was, though it has and can bred out when outcrossed it seems.
