Ringnecks are the first snake I ever kept, but that was many years ago. The husbandry is simple. An adult could be kept in a 20 gallon tank. Temps similar the the for a corn snake. A diet of earthworms, grubs and crickets work well. when I was 12 or so, I actually had a breeding pair. I ended up with about 20 or so baby ringnecks. Sorry I don't have any pics tho.

I've heard they are very delicate, don't acclimate well to captivity, and generally are hard to keep.

I've also heard personal anecdotes like Keith's about people keeping them easily.

I think there are more than one species of ringneck snake, so that might explain the different reviews.

I have some friends who live out in the country and find them in their pool all the time. They are adorable and I'd love to try keeping one if I knew more about them.

I have a little WC southern ringneck. He is a very picky eater, only eating worms, slugs, and feeder guppies maybe 2-3 times a month, sometimes only once. Also, he is very secretive and shy. They love to burrow and hide. I have him in a natural planted terrarium and he seems to do alright, though I'd like to see him eat more. Only about 8-10 inches long with a bright red-orange belly. I will try to get some pics up later if I can get him to come out!

i've had my ringneck for over a month and he won't eat. i've tried earthworms, feeder guppies, and mouse tails. i've tried hand feeding him and leaving the food in the cage. any other ideas?

i know people who kept them successfully to the point of breeding, i have had such luck myself. i let them go by our family cabin, near a creek. i have seen them breed in the wild. they were picky eaters back then too. crickets and redworms mostly...good luck!

dig this up from the past! i have a pair of southern ringnecks. i'll take a few pics for you tomorrow.

i keep them in a 10 gal tank woth 90% of the screen covered to keep moisture in. they require a very damp enviroment. i keep them in about 3 inches of eco earth i think it is?? i'll double check. they love to burrow, but also love to show off for some reason! they rarely hide when i turn the lights on. i just dump a container of about 40 bloodworms in their tank and they eat when they feel like it.

    pics to come!!
