    Dragon Sculpture...about 1/4 finished
Decided I wanted to make a dragon sculpture...used some heavy wire mesh as an armature inside, wrapped in foil...then a layer of air-dry clay, then each scale is shaped and placed atop the 'skin' and secured in place individually. I work from the tail forward in order to allow the overlap.

It started out as an asian dragon, and then the head wasn't, and now it's sort of...escalated into an interesting mesh. On the bright side---no whiskers. The down side---no wings. And it looks a little weird.

Oh, well, it's nowhere near finished...Figured I'd show it. Oh, pardon the two different colors--I ran out of the terra cotta colored clay and had to buy more.

    DETAILS:

The infamous and ever-requested BELLY SHOT. What a clean belly...No het pied markers, but you can't ask for everything..!

My personal favorite parts right now: FEET!

    Right foot

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...Dragsculp7.jpg
    Left foot

The feet alone took me over three hours of work. Total time so far: Probably 13-15 hours.

Estimated time of clay-working finish: 24-34 hours
Estimated time of painting finish: 1-3 hours

My first sculpture (excluding a bowl and a candle holder shaped like a castle) EVER!! Hopefully there will be MANY more later. ^-^ I'm having tons of fun!

Thanks everybody! ^-^ I'm having a lot of fun with it. I'll be sure to keep updating it as I get more done! I already know how I'm gonna paint it. If it works the way I hope, it'll look soooo neato...

XDD Hahaha, you'll have to fight my dad and a few other people for it! I already have two requests (read: demands) for a dragon sculpture from my friends.

Very labor intensive. But I'm sure that it a labor of love. Should be pretty cool when finished.
