A little extreme.

Now this would work for a kid that's at least 12 yrs and up. But 8! that's just too much to handle. They could be traumatized for life. tell me what you think. I could be wrong. but that's just my opinion.

I think this is something very good for kids, even at the young age of 8. Between hormones injected into our foods that cause kids to mature faster than any previous generation, the lack of morals surround our kids via tv, radio, just public in general, no lack of respect for oneself combined with lack of respect for authority figures (this includes teachers, parents, etc), and the fact that usually both parents in a household have to work to make ends meet (which leads to lack of supervision) kids think they are tough, know it all and can do as they please. Most kids dont realize that there are consequences to their actions and sad to say, most kids get away with way to much garbage. I think a reality check done safely but openly may help keep most kids out of trouble. And the video even says it.. the best advice came from a peer who was already on the inside. stay in school, get an education, BE BETTER THAN US!!.

no way NO how someone is going talk to, treat, exc my kid that way. I wouldnt sign off on it, if i found out the school took either of my children and that happened to them it would not end pretty. I think its great for children who are showing signs thats the road they are headed down but i think thats way to the extreme.. ive never seen the inside of jail, my mother telling me "find your self in jail find your way out" was enough for me... still to this day i have never as much sat in the back of a cop car much less go to "reality check" Again, if a child is getting into trouble or the parents (individually) think this is something their children need then fine but i dont think it works in every scenario nor do i think its necessary. I think parents need to start making more of an effort to raise their children to be good citizens.. we dont need police officers wasting their time teaching our children what they need to do/know/exc. Come on parents step up, honestly... I think our society as a whole would be much better off if children were raised differently. I think its a major cop-out to blame it on food, tv, exc... its parents not doing their job.

I dont think parents just randomly signed up their kids for this program for no reason, what did they do? They should have told us what these kids did to make their parents enroll them in this program.

They were as young as 8, some were teenagers.

85% success rate, thats pretty good so it seems to be working.

This isnt a field trip from school people, the parents obviously felt there was a reason to send their kids here. Maybe it was suggested to them by a judge, we need the whole story.

Apparently those parents saw something in their kids that they feared could end their child in jail. Better for them to see it now and see how not so glamorous jail REALLY is then to allow them to continue down a long road of self distruction.

And furthermore...Haven't you all ever watched any daytime talk shows? They have been doing this forever.

*also...in my personal experience...I find kids are WAY more receptive around the ages of 8-11 so I think it will definitely stick with these kids for a long time.

I agree and that would change everything as far as my opinion goes...

I grew up in a bad area. I've seen 8 year olds having sex. I've seen 8 year olds using drugs. 8 isn't always so innocent. I think the program is a great idea. As Meme said, kids really do seem more receptive at that age and form opinions of the world that stick with them for the rest of their lives. 85% success rate is nothing to scoff at. Maybe more counties need to have this program.
