    frozen rats question
    was up everyone,

got a question. i was planning on buying some small & medium frozen rats for my bps at the next whiteplains show. i plan on put thing them in a plastic tub and keep it at the bottom of the freezer.

my parents are questioning the sanitary of them being in the same freezer as the meat we eat. i figure them at them bottom and not touch anything we eat would be fine. anyone can just drop some info on this, greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Tell your parents there is no cross contamination if they are both in sealed plastic ziplock bags, and not handled in the same area at the same time.

I think your parents aren't really down with the idea of having rats in the freezer. Just tell them your saving a TON of money, and you dont have to feed live. 2 pluses right there. ;)

yea im really trying to save $$$. its starting add up. i was gonna put them in a ziplock bag and then place them in a container and put them at the bottom of the freezer, which isnt on the same level as the food.

its the same as keeping chicken and ice cubes in the freezer long as they dont touch or you touch the rat then ice with out washing, even then you would be just fine. i mean if you dont use your immune system why have it LOOL jk

Yeah I would think chicken would have more germs (salmonella) or beef has e-coli.

Assure your mom you will keep them in a cardboard (or other opaque) box as well as in plastic (make sure when she opens the freezer she does not see any HINT of frozen rat bodies through plastic) and that lots of people do that all the time and nobody gets sick from it (that we know of...lol). You could even "stretch" things a bit and say these rats are raised as lab rats, and are raised in very clean environments, proven disease free, as they could not be used in research otherwise. Okay that is stretching it a bit, but in fact lab rats raised for lab use are very clean.

Sheesh you could even tell her the risk of eating at a fast food place or restaurant is often pretty high (hepatitis A, kitchen staff not wearing gloves) and I bet your family doesn't worry when they eat out.
