hides

Do you use hides for you young boas? If so what do you use and how many?

I've used them since I got my girl. I got cat litter bins and cut a hole in the side. I use 2, one on each side. I would recommend using hides and if you find the boa doesn't go in it, you can take them out. A lot of people don't use hides when they are adults but I would at least give them the option and if the boa doesn't use them you can just take them out.

2 of my boas don't use hides and 1 of my boas uses one hide.

My guy doesn't use a hide. He hangs out on his branch mostly. Or if he's feeling shy he'll be in the dark back of the tub.

I use hides for my younger boa. Typically 2. Though I house all my young kids in Boaphile racks, so they are fairly secure in there and don't use the hides much. But I still believe it's a good idea to provide them with some, even if they choose not to use them. As for my adults, I just cover part of the cage with a towel to give them a dark corner. Works quite well.

I have the anomaly boa; she's nearly 3 and rarely ventures outside of her hides.

I think I own a hermit crab...not a boa. :rolleyes:

My girl is a little over 2 and spends all day in the hides and ventures out at night.

Add my two (BCI and BCC) to the hiding like BP's list. Hiding all day and out at night. I have wondered in the past what I was doing wrong. Glad to here I am not the only one with shy boas.:gj:

I use hides right now also, I give mine a climbing
branch and use the same plastic flower pots from the dollar store or Walmart that I use for my BPs

We offer one hide for each of the younger boas (a male 05 and a female 07) which are located on the warm side of their enclosures. Both seem to use them. For the 07 she has a large and sturdy thick black rubber dog dish I got at a feed/farm supply store. For the 05 he has a large black bowl I got one year at halloween (was I assume meant to hold large amounts of candy to give out) - makes a great snake hide though. The biggest one, the 16 year old female boa doesn't require a hide as parts of her very large enclosure are not easy seen so she can melt away back there when she wants her quiet time. :)
