    Wires in a habitat
So... I got two more digital thermometers for my corns cage... but I can't have them outside of the cage because there is no spot for the wires to go through. So I have them set up INSIDE of the cage, the wires hidden best I could... is this a bad idea?

It's better to get a more accurate reading when they are inside the cage. It would be bad if you had taped them down or something. If you have them taped, you should move them to be under the substrate and secure them by putting a hide on-top of them. I don't know how your whole terrarium is set up though, it depends on if it's plastic/glass, type of substrate, lamp/UTH

There's a bunch of variables to the equation, but having the thermometer inside will not do any harm, both of my glass terrariums have thermometers in them

The wires for a thermometer are fine in the tank. Worst case scenario your thermometer goes dead from getting peed on (which it most likely will not). The voltage from the battery really isnt enough to hurt your snake.

Unless it's a unit that measures humidity and ambient air temps as well as a probed temp, I keep my units outside and just have the wires going in under the lids and buried under the substrate and hides.

Acurite large units I mount inside the enclosures using xtra strong velcro.

So this won't bother my snake at all? I'm worried about stressing it out.
    Thanks for the responses. [=

It wouldn't bother the snake, you could probably hide the wires in the substrate. That might make it more appealing to the eyes too. The one thermometer i have that has excess wiring inside the terrarium I just coil it up and put it under the water dish. I couldn't imagine the wires stressing the snake out that much though.

Thanks Evan. [= I don't mind the wires at all... I try to think about my snakes well-being, not my aesthetic wants. lol

Yeah, I just gather the extra and use a plastic covered twist tie to bundle it up under the meter in the substrate. That way, only the wire I need to go under the hide is out. :)

But no, wires wouldn't stress a snake. Just be aware of possible tangling or tugging from the excess hanging out.
