    First time rack
    Hi everyone,
I just finished buidling my rat breeding rack last night. Its the average one with 6 cement mixing tubs and made of 2x2's so I didnt bother taking any pictures. It turned out pretty well but I did have some questions. I know a lot of people just have the food on top and let the rats eat through the metal grates but I live in an apartment and I'm afraid that roaches will collect on the rack to take advantage of the food kind of hanging out on top. So I guess my question is, is there an advantage to keeping the food there instead of in a bowl or something. Will the rats waste a lot of the food if its in the cage instead of on top?
    Thanks

Yes there is, if the food is inside of the cage they may go to the bathroom on the food, then eat it. If it is above them they can not do this. It is also nice, becasue it is easier to refill then if it were inside the cage.

    Hope this helps.

Rats will eat roaches LOL.. Kidding! Those roaches have been in who knows what...

Do you have a roach problem? Or are you worried about one developing?

You can put only enough food for the day if your worried. I know many people do that so the food doesnt go stale.

I have always just filled it up.

I have never thought about food going stale. I have always just filled up also. It is nice not to have to add food for a week; although, I check daily just in case.

Good point Connie. If he has roaches, regardless of where he puts the food they are gonna find their way to it.

All I know is that if I had to fill rat food daily I might kill someone! I check the rats often but I fill food/water weekly except for the ones in tanks with bottles.

Thanks everyone. I dont have a roach problem but I would hate to develop one. I have a dubia colony for my beardies but I cant stand house roaches. I know that people in my building arent the cleanest and I think they might have some roaches and dont want them migrating their way on over to me. Putting just enough in for the day sounds pretty good to me though. Thanks again.
