home made wooden cages???
snake collecting growing and just bought some vision cages. but dont have enough $$$ to grab some more. so before i make a wooden cage is there anything i should know?? like mites or just anything. i am planning on putting plexi glass sliding doors also. thanks :)

Hi,
Make sure it is well sealed (to prevent moisture damage and make cleaning easier) and plan all the heating, lighting and ventilation before you start building - it will make things a lot smoother if you don't have to try and adjust things half way through.

When you make the doors, make sure you use 1/4" plexi. I tried to skimp on my swinging doors and didn't realize how flexible 1/8" is. Luckily I noticed it before my snake did.

Somewhere on this site is a thread about making an inexpensive plastic rack out of a drawer & tub unit from Ikea. Maybe you would like to make one of those for yourself.

Don't use Cedar or Pine:)
I agree make sure you plan out all the heating stuff. Definitely look into radiant heat panels!

I have a RHP in my wooden cage - I LOVE it!!! Well worth the money! I was going to use undertank heaters when I first started building, but didn't know how the heat would transfer through 3/4" plywood. I've been using my heat panel for 3 or 4 years and it's fantastic!
