Advice needed on shed situation
Ok, I'm at a loss here. My female het albino has shed three times for me now, in her QT tub and now in her nice big rack tub. Each time the humidity was around 75% and the last two times she had a nice rough decor item to rub against. But every time she's shed in pieces and retained at least half the shed.
Now, that's not a huge problem for me...I just soak her and rub her through a towel. The problem is that she can NEVER get the piece on her head and face off, and she's so head shy that I have to take her in to my store friends so they can get the skin off her.
What can I do about this?? Three times now, and the same thing each time! This past time was about a week ago, in her new tub with great humidity the whole time and I had to soak her THREE times...and the stuff on her head and neck is STILL THERE!! It's like she doesn't know how to shed properly.
I don't want to peel the skin off her myself since I'm not confident enough to hold her head tight enough to keep it still. I don't want to hurt her, but what should I do? It's getting tiresome having to take her to the shop every time...
Re: Advice needed on shed situation
If I was in your situation I would offer a humid hide in the tank and lower the ambient humidity in the enclosure the next time around. Try 55%-60%, I usually keep that in my tubs at all times and my snakes shed fine more often than not.

BUMP Anyone else with comments or possible solutions? She STILL hasn't gotten it off herself, so I'll be taking her in Tuesday.

Hi,
Have you tried the damp pillowcase?
You could maybe try a humid hidebox but your humidity sounds ok.
Intrestingly I had a male who was a horrible shedder but his last two have been almost perfect. :weirdface
Your not doing anything like soaking her before the shed I take it?

Re: Advice needed on shed situation
I've done the pillowcase twice on her just with THIS shed. :taz:
And no, I don't soak her before sheds but I do make sure the plants in her tub are lightly misted to boost direct humidity a bit. I guess I could try the added humid hide and see if that does anything. Poor girl lifts her head every time she breaths now since the shed is still on her nose.
It's almost like she doesn't know to rub her nose, only her neck or the side of her head. But there are no abrasions or cuts on her to indicate soreness... She has me stumped on this.
Re: Advice needed on shed situation
Since she's a het I'm assuming she's from a breeder. Have you spoken to her breeder to see if she is just one of those snakes that tends to shed poorly and has a history of this before you got her?
Re: Advice needed on shed situation
Ah, good point. Yes, she's from a local breeder here. I'll email him with the question. :)
