    regurgitated rat
so i went to check on the kids this morning like i always do and saw that my 6 month old red tail had regurgitated one of the rats he ate yesterday. my goodness it was the worst smelling thing EVER. he ate 2 small rats and vomited one back up. he didnt get handled after and the husbandry is the same as it always is. this has never happened to us before. he seemed to be still hungry yesterday after his first one so we threw him the extra rat that our dumerils wouldnt eat.

is it possible we fed him too much?
or the rat was bad(it was live and normal)?
is there anything i can do for him besides leave him alone?
and when should i feed him again?

    thanks.

My guess is that it's too much food. If you have fed him the same amount previously I don't know why something like that would happen.
It's not as if you didn't thaw it out completely, since you say you feed live. Is it possiibly from stress from hunting it's second prey item? I really have no idea, i don't know a whole lot about feeding live.

    Hi,

Obviously not a boa person but do know what they will want you to check I think.

Have you double checked the temps in his enclosure?

Is this the first time you fed him this much at one sitting?

As for the answers to your questions I'm sure some of the boa guys will be a long shortly to help you.

6 month old boa? eating 2 small rats? thats way too much.. you should always try to feed 1 food item per feeding.. just get the boa something as big as its girth or a lil bigger and you should be good to go..

for now.. dont feed for about a week or so.. he needs to build up the acid and waht not that he lost during regurge

I know this is a very delicate situation that I am also going through with one of my boas at the moment. Based on some very good advice I found on another forum, I am waiting 3 weeks to feed again and I will be feeding a VERY small meal. The plan is to then wait another 2 weeks before feeding another small meal. After that slowly increasing meal size. Just for reference, prior to regurge, I was feeding my 11 month old boa one rat pup every 7 days. Good luck.

I agree with everything that you've said you've found on other forums. I feed my yearlings weanling rats (one per 7 days) and they do well with that amount.

Is this a Bci or a Bcc? I saw in your sig you have 'red tail' but that can be referring to either.
