    Cleaning habits
    Hello everyone,
I was just wondering about about your cleaning habits for your enclosures. I know that this will depend on a lot different factors such as substrate and tank or tub. Thought this might be informative to others.

    I'll start:
my two bps are in tubs on aspen bedding. i spot clean as necessary by removing solid waste and spraying with Healthy Habitat. Once a month remove the snake dumb all the bedding and disinfect with a Chlorohexadine solution.

Let me know what you think and also what u do.

I just use newsprint in my tubs. Anytime there's a "spoilage", I go ahead and clean the tub, hide and water bowl and lay down new paper. I'm terrible with keeping a schedule for cleaning....

You should be removing the substrate weekly, or at least every other week even with spot cleaning.
I'm not sure if I misunderstood you or not.

    Papertowels, cleaned with every go.

I use Kraft paper and clean when they poo or pee and also if their is any other signs of ickyness.

I also clean the water bowls every day since this gives me reason and opportunity to check the snakes, their condition, if in blue, etc.

That's exactly what I do! Unprinted newspaper changed on
Friday. And then once a month I completely sterilize with a 10% bleach solution. When your collection builds up to a certain level, it is helpful to have a schedule for all of your maintenance. Break it down into parts and do one task on the same day every week. Stick to this schedule and it becomes routine.

Ooops, I forgot to mention that when I clean the tubs, I wash them with soap and water and then spray with chlorhexadine or Novalsan (depending on which I have at the moment) and let it stay on the tub for a few minutes and wipe down and let air dry. Whew!!!!

If it's a snake in a cage, I plop the bugger into a spare rack tub (I know, I know, spare tubs are evil!) Then I light soap and rinse the cage and then chlorhex or Novalsan, blah blah blah ;)

Quick question - apologies for going a bit off topic - but are Nolvasan and Chlorhexi pretty much the same thing, or can they at least be used interchangeably? I can get Nolvasan easily, but Chlorhexi is a bit of a bother to acquire.

They are very similar but N. is a wider range. I forget what it kills that Chlorhex doesn't.... but it is something.... Oh gods, where's Becky when we need her.....
